Under the direction of the HSE Manager, the HSE Supervisor will be responsible for providing support to the production team, supervisors, and workers. This position will provide leadership and coordination of the day-to-day safety requirements of the assigned project. Additional responsibilities include managing and ensuring the accurate processing of workers' compensation claims, validating the thoroughness and precision of accident reports, and spearheading safety incentive programs and initiatives.
- Provide support to the production team by maintaining a visible presence to the field performing production floor visits to the entire warehouse at least one per shift, if possible coordinate with the HSE Manager.
- Assist in the coaching, mentoring and implementation of the IIPP program and all applicable HSE programs.
- Regularly review and be familiar with all applicable legislation and applicable standards, to ensure compliance including CalOSHA, CUPA, ISO, etc.
- Inform the production team and supervisors of any new or conflictive legislative matters that could impact the project.
- Assist in the development of a Site Safety Management Plan (SMP) for the project to ensure a safe work environment for all company employees, contractors, visitors and community.
- Regularly audit the SMP and all other relevant programs for compliance and update to ensure the alignment with project scope and conditions.
- Organize and schedule required safety staff and first aid coverage.
- Provide direction, support and resources to all production teams, supervisors, and safety coordinators.
- Ensure that all incidents are reported immediately.
- Participate and assist the supervisors, and safety coordinators in the investigation of incidents to determine root cause, and corrective actions where necessary.
- Ensure incident corrective actions are followed up on and complete.
- Ensure injured workers are offered modified duties and documentation has been completed. Monitor and follow up on modified workers.
- Ensure Safety Coordinators are verifying field staff training and competencies; consult the HSE Manager for compliance and action plan.
- Review safety obligations and ensure they are carried out to the Production Team, Supervisors, and Safety Coordinators.
- Ensure new hires complete the safety orientation and all required documentation is completed accurately and forwarded to the HR office/Safety Department.
- Ensure safety boards with postings including but not limited to: Health and safety policy, inspection and audit results, project hazard assessment, location of first aid, etc. are maintained and current.
- Ensure that the following material is available, BYD IIPP Manual, the applicable regulations, safety inspection forms, observation forms, toolbox talk and logbooks, fall protection plans etc.
- Assist to communicate, and coach the field staff to ensure that all safety expectations are understood and met.
- Coordinate a regular meeting with production team, management team, and safety team to review issues, trends and upcoming conditions or events.
- Supervise the processing and follow-up of claims, guaranteeing swift and proper handling with our workers’ compensation insurance carrier.
- Regularly interact with injured employees, their supervisors, and the HR team, facilitating a comprehensive understanding of the Workers' Compensation processes.
- Offer guidance to the production team regarding comprehensive incident investigations, which include conducting witness interviews and compiling relevant information and documentation.
- Keep local management informed with updates on absences and return-to-work notices, manage the entirety of the workers' compensation claim process, and regularly update management on the progression and expenses of each claim.
- Identify injury trends within the production team and work collaboratively with the HSE and HR teams to relay information with the goal of decreasing accidents and enhancing safety.
- Work with HR for the annual OSHA reporting process and ensure adherence to all relevant workers' compensation regulations, including ADA and leave of absence policies.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment. Work involves lifting materials and product up to 30 pounds. Machinery operation requires the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to: eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, work boots, and hardhats. Loose-fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to a high level of noise.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Occupational health and safety degree, diploma or certificate would be strongly preferred.
Minimum 5 years Health and Safety general industry field experience preferred.
Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
The ability to demonstrate the application of risk assessment to company operations and activities.
Good physical condition.
OSHA 30 Hour General Industry.
